Leeds United goalkeepr Kiko Casilla has firmly established himself as the number one at Elland Road this season.

A nervy end to the season in which Casilla made a couple of mistakes and saw red against Sheffield United led to some questions being asked over both his ability and commitment to the Elland Road cause over the summer.

However, journalist Phil Hay has revealed that although it was something which was assumed thanks to Casilla's big wages, the Spaniard immediately sought out a conversation with Marcelo Bielsa after the play-off semi-final defeat where he reaffirmed his desire to stay with the club.

Hay was answering questions from fans in his live Q&A via The Athletic, and revealed the information about Casilla in response to one particular question.

Leeds made the decision to sell young goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell in the summer, leaving Casilla as the firmly established number one at Elland Road despite his poor finish to the season.

Bielsa has put his faith in Casilla this season and he has been in impressive form as Leeds have once again gotten off to a good start in the Championship.

The former Real Madrid stopper was a surprise capture in January and is known to be the top earner at Elland Road ahead of other key players such as Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez.

The Verdict

This is good to see and nice to see that Casilla himself wanted to stay with the club and not the club begging him to stay.

Casilla is a top quality goalkeeper and should prove to be one of the best stoppers in the league if he can keep his head.

Leeds have to go up this season really, and Casilla will be a key player for them if they are indeed to cement a top two spot.
