Kiko Casilla is expected to stay at Leeds United this summer, with the goalkeeper seemingly keen on sticking around at Elland Road.

Leeds signed Casilla on a four-and-a-half year deal back in January, but the goalkeeper endured an inconsistent run-in, with his howler in the play-off semi-final defeat to Derby County a standout bad moment.

Reports from Football Insider had claimed that Leeds were looking to offload Casilla, but Phil Hay – formerly of the Yorkshire Evening Post – has suggested it looks like the 32-year-old will be sticking around.

The Spaniard has featured in a friendly against York City, as well as both fixtures on Leeds’ Australian tour last week. Hay notes that his involvement over pre-season suggests he’s sticking around, as well as the fact that the goalkeeper wants to stay on board.

Following his arrival, Casilla made 19 appearances, conceding 22 goals, including four in that play-off second-leg. The goalkeeper also picked up two yellow cards and a red card during those 19 appearances, as well as managing six clean sheets.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell is the other senior goalkeeper currently at Elland Road, but Alan Nixon linked him with a move to Burnley over the weekend.

The Verdict

All the talk at the start of the summer was suggesting that Casilla would be on his way out of Leeds, but he’s been so involved over pre-season, which makes it hard to see why Bielsa would consider offloading him.

Leeds took him to the other side of the world for two fixtures, with all the talk now about Peacock-Farrell departing after missing out on the tour.

Casilla is an experienced head, which will be important for Leeds this season, and you feel that if he’s settled and not pushing a move – which seems to be the case – it makes complete sense to keep him.
