Leeds United's pursuit of Swansea's Daniel James is seemingly drawing closer to a close, according to reliable journalist, Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist revealed on Twitter that Leeds are hoping to have the deal in place today, but admitted it could be a close run transfer with deadline day fast approaching.

It was reported by The Sun on Monday, that Leeds had tabled bid in excess of £10m for James as they look to strike a deal with a Swansea side who seem reluctant to let the winger leave this month.

James has only broken through to the Swansea first-team this season, so this potential signing would be a risk, but many Leeds supporters will feel as though they need to take risks to maintain their place at the top of the Championship table.

He suits Bielsa's high-pressing style of play, and would be a useful option to have in the Leeds squad going forward.

The Whites have been the team to beat this season, and they are showing minimal signs of slowing down in their quest for a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

It remains to be seen as to how Swansea will respond to Leeds' latest offer for James, but it seems likely that Leeds will be able to finalise a deal for him before the transfer window closes.

The Verdict:

This is promising news for Leeds United supporters.

It remained unclear as to how far into negotiations they were with James, but they seem to be edging closer to completing a deal for the promising winger.

This deal would show a real statement of intent by Marcelo Bielsa's side, and James is the type of player that suits Leeds' style of play.
