Phil Hay has reiterated that Leeds United want to sign Jack Harrison on a permanent deal this summer, with The Athletic reporter stating he doesn’t see Man City delivering an ultimatum of rushing the deal if the season is still being played.

Leeds have overseen the progression of Harrison over the course of the last two seasons, with the deal they struck with City last summer including an option to take the 23-year-old on a permanent contract ahead of 2020/21.

Usually, the season would now be concluded and Leeds would be looking to wrap up their agreement for Harrison, but the season is, of course, still to be concluded and any permanent deal for the winger will have to be pushed back.

Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?

In the eyes of Phil Hay, though, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem in bringing the City man to Elland Road permanently.

He told his Q&A with The Athletic: “They intend to activate that clause.

“Like many contracts (loans etc) you would assume that clubs will be reasonable about the dates of those clauses, especially of there's a confirmed end date for the both the EPL and Championship seasons. Leeds want Harrison.

“It would be underhand of City to insist on a cut-off which made the move difficult because games are still going on (and I doubt they would do that).”

Harrison has started every Championship fixture this season for the Whites, with Marcelo Bielsa having unwavering faith in the winger.

And, Harrison has been good value, showing another significant improvement in his game this season.

In 37 appearances, he’s scored five goals and registered a further seven assists.

The Verdict

This is a deal that many at Leeds want to see wrapped up ahead of next season.

Harrison has been so impressive this season and if he continues on this trajectory, he’s going to be a useful option to have around in the future.

Hay seems to think there will be little standing in the way of this deal, which is great news for those at Elland Road.
