The Athletic's Phil Hay has issued his verdict on a new report suggesting that Qatar Sports Investments are prioritising a takeover of Leeds United in the future.

QSI, who also own French giants PSG, have been linked with a potential takeover of the Yorkshire club for much of the season.

In the latest development, 90min has reported that QSI chief Nasser al-Khelaifi has been in talks with Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani and is prioritising completing the deal in the near future.

The PSG owners are understood to be keen to expand their portfolio into England and are solely focussed on Leeds, despite having the option to purchase multiple Premier League clubs.

90min claims that a deal worth around £120 million is close to being agreed by the two parties.

Hay has taken to Twitter to issue his verdict on the latest report.

The Verdict

Hay is a hugely respected voice when it comes to Leeds, so it is interesting to get his verdict on the latest report.

He appears to suggest that talks are indeed ongoing but hints that not enough progress has been made to justify this latest report.

It will be interesting to see how things develop but you feel this would be a strange time for the takeover to happen, given the current fixture delay and the uncertainty surrounding the conclusion of the 2019/20 season.

Few teams will be more impacted by how and when the current campaign is finished than Leeds, who are top of the Championship with nine games to go.
