Leeds United have not dropped their pursuit of either Southampton striker Che Adams or Manchester City winger Ian Poveda but are very close to a deal for Chievo goalkeeper Elia Caprile, according to The Athletic's Phil Hay.

With just 11 days left of the January transfer window, the only movement at the Yorkshire club so far has been the exits of loanees Eddie Nketiah and Jack Clarke–both of whom were recalled by their parent clubs.

Hay has provided an update on the Whites' current pursuit of their January targets, revealing that they're still interested in both Adams and Poveda, and that the Caprile deal is nearly done.

It is understood Leeds see Adams as their number one target but they're struggling to prize him away from Southampton, as Ralph Hasenhuttl has made it clear he doesn't want him to leave.

The club have run into different obstacles in their pursuit of Poveda, as they reportedly face competition for the Manchester City teenager, with Torino interested.

Leeds are thought to be bringing Caprile in on a permanent deal, with the 18-year-old shot-stopper likely to provide cover for Illan Meslier if Kiko Casilla is banned.

The Whites are second in the Championship as things stand, four points back from league leaders West Bromwich Albion and four points above third-place Fulham.

The Verdict

If Saturday's result made anything clear it was that Marcelo Bielsa needs some more options in his squad, as his bench was mostly made up of U23s players.

Leeds have been unable to add any of those yet and the news that they're still pushing for Adams and Poveda is unlikely to bring fans of the Yorkshire club any relief just yet.

It sounds as if Caprile will be their first signing of the decade, which makes a lot of sense given Casilla's potential ban and could be one that pays dividends in the future given his age.

However, that does not solve the club's main issue–their need for a new forward.
