Leeds United have recently been linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Jean-Kévin Augustin according to The Athletic's Phil Hay.

It is claimed that any potential deal could be difficult to force through though, with the striker currently on loan with French side AS Monaco.

But the 22-year-old has struggled for consistent game time whilst out on loan, and has only made two starts in his ten league appearances so far this season.

So, it could be a hectic end to the transfer window for Leeds, as they look to add a striker to their ranks before the deadline reaches a conclusion on Friday 31st January.

Hay has gone on to reveal that Augustin is keen on a move to Elland Road, but was quick to admit that any potential agreement between both parties is complex.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa only has one recognised senior option in attack in Patrick Bamford who has struggled for consistency in his performances this season.

Eddie Nketiah was recalled from his loan spell at Elland Road by Arsenal, after making just two league starts in his time with the Yorkshire-based club.

With Deadline Day approaching, it could prove to be a potentially season-defining week as they look to find a striker to fire them to promotion into the Premier League this term.

The Verdict:

This could be the deal to keep an eye on for Leeds supporters heading into Deadline Day.

I wouldn't have thought that Augustin would be keen on a move to the Championship, and it would be interesting to see how he would cope in English football.

He's highly-rated in European football, and I think he could be the ideal striker for Leeds to target this month, as they look to find someone to challenge Patrick Bamford for his starting spot in the Leeds squad.

If Leeds don't manage to get a striker through the door before the deadline, then I have my doubts as to whether they'll win promotion into the Premier League this season.
