The Sky Bet Championship’s promotion race looks set to go the distance this season, with Leeds United playing catch up heading into the run-in on the other side of the international break.

Leeds lost 1-0 to Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon to leave them adrift of the top-two, whilst Norwich City’s win over Rotherham helped them take another gigantic stride towards the Premier League.

And, Phil Hay at the Yorkshire Evening Post has been quizzed on whether he believes Leeds will last the distance over the course of the next eight games.

The respected journalist think Norwich look likely to take the title, but it is hard to call whether Leeds or Sheffield United will join them in the top-two, with it Hay's view that both will drop points.

Chris Wilder’s Blades have the advantage right now, but they face Bristol City, Preston North End and Birmingham City in their next three fixtures.

However, that run isn’t dissimilar to Leeds’ next three, with the Whites welcoming Millwall to Elland Road before taking on Birmingham and Preston away from home in the space of four days.

For Norwich, they take on Middlesbrough next time out at the Riverside Stadium before back-to-back home fixtures against QPR and Reading.

The Verdict

“Hard to call” is probably spot on from Phil Hay here.

The Championship is as tight as it has been in years, with Norwich, Sheffield United and Leeds all well in contention with eight to play.

Norwich look set to go up, but things can change quickly, whilst Sheffield United and Leeds may go toe-to-toe right up until the final game of the season.
