Leeds United are set for an interesting January transfer window ahead, with rumours already circulating heading into the festive period.

It had previously been reported by The Mirror (22/10, page 74) that Leeds were keen on signing Burnley striker Matej Vydra, as they look to strengthen their front line in the New Year.

Vydra has struggled for game time with Sean Dyche's side, and has been restricted to just five appearances in all competitions this term.

But The Athletic's Phil Hay has poured cold water on Vydra's rumoured arrival, and claims that Leeds will stick with their current attacking options, providing that Eddie Nketiah remains with the club.

Nketiah has been linked with a return to Arsenal in the January transfer window, with the young forward still yet to make a league start for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

But Nketiah has recently returned from injury and could be given a chance to impress over the hectic festive period, as Bielsa looks to keep his squad fresh heading into the New Year.

Leeds will be looking to win a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League this season, and the Yorkshire-based side have made a strong start to this year's campaign.

The Whites are currently sat top of the Championship table, and are five points clear of the play-off places which will be pleasing to see for the Elland Road faithful.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised by this at all.

Vydra would have been a good signing for Leeds as they look to win promotion into the Premier League, but they don't really need another striker if Eddie Nketiah remains with the club for the remainder of this year's campaign.

Leeds have got good enough options in attack to win promotion this term, and Vydra would be a waste of wages for the Whites if they signed him in January as I don't think he'd start.
