Leeds United moved into the automatic promotion places as they beat Luton Town 2-1 at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Patrick Bamford netted a brace on the day, and he'll be keen to add to his goal tally as the season heads into the potentially season-defining festive period.

It could be an interesting January transfer window ahead for Leeds, and Marcelo Bielsa's have recently been linked with a move for Matej Vydra (The Mirror, 22/11, page 74), whilst also being rumoured to be interested in signing Dwight Gayle in the past.

Speaking in a Q&A on The Athletic's website, Leeds United reporter Phil Hay issued an update on their rumoured transfer pursuit of both Dwight Gayle and Matej Vydra.

"They’d be interested in Gayle but he’s highly likely to go to Forest and his wage is seriously expensive. The problem with Vydra is the history there.

"The hierarchy at Leeds were not impressed with him when they tried to sign him last (Vydra basically admitted that he’d rather go to the Premier League). But if Nketiah was to go back, they would need someone else."

Nketiah has struggled for consistent minutes under Marcelo Bielsa this season, and is still yet to make a league start for Leeds, which will be frustrating for the Arsenal loanee.

Leeds are next in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Berkshire to take on Reading who have shown improvement since Mark Bowen was appointed as their new manager.

The Verdict:

This is somewhat of a frustrating transfer update from Hay.

The majority of the Elland Road faithful will surely be keen to see further attacking options arrive in Janaury's transfer window, especially if Nketiah is to return to Arsenal from his loan spell with Leeds.

Vydra would be a good addition to the Leeds squad though I feel, and I think that he would be the ideal competition for Patrick Bamford's starting spot in Bielsa's squad.
