Leeds United are well on course to win a long-awaited promotion into the Premier League under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa this season.

The Yorkshire-based side are currently sat top of the Championship table, and are seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with nine matches still to play in this year's campaign.

However, that push for promotion has been put on hold for the time being, with recent off-the-field events calling an abrupt halt to fixtures across the country.

The EFL have recently announced that they have delayed the return date for training to the 25th May at the earliest, as they continue to monitor the situation in the UK.

It remains to be seen as to whether competitive action will eventually get back underway, as the relevant authorities weigh up the possible options going forward, with the 2020/21 season edging closer.

The Athletic's Phil Hay responded to a question on how the Leeds United squad feel about finishing the rest of the season, and revealed that they're ready to play, which is certain to go down well with the Elland Road faithful.

Leeds have been in an impressive run of form before the break from action, with Marcelo Bielsa's men winning their last five matches in the Championship.

The Verdict:

This isn't a surprise at all.

Leeds have been hugely impressive this season in the Championship, and they'll be hoping they can get the job done in returning to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa has had his players well-drilled this season, and I just can't see any other team standing in their way as they look to win promotion this term.

They'll be confident of picking up where they left off if competitive action is to get back underway later this year.
