Leeds United face another big day in their fight for promotion to the Premier League on Friday, as they host a Wigan Athletic side battling against relegation to League One at Elland Road.

It had been thought that if Leeds were to pick up three points against the Latics on Friday they will have to do it without the help of one of their key men, with captain Liam Cooper expected to miss out due to injury, having also missed the 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, where the experienced Gaetano Berardi deputised for the captain.

That may however no longer be the case, after it was revealed by The Yorkshire Evening Post's Leeds United reporter Phil Hay that the club captain is present and with the squad ahead of the game.

Though still described as a major injury doubt, it seems that Marcelo Bielsa is taking as long as possible before deciding on the availability of his skipper.

The verdict

This could be a huge decision in Leeds' season for Bielsa to make.

While seeing Cooper on the teamsheet could provide a huge boost to both the squad and the Elland Road stands, this could also be a big risk, were he to pick up a longer term injury.

Given Wigan's dismal away record this season, this may not be a risk worth taking for Bielsa.
