Leeds United had a very productive summer, with the Whites bringing in a lot of new players to strengthen Marcelo Bielsa's squad as they look to push for promotion.

Whilst most fans will be pleased with the business that the club have done, it has left the manager with a potential problem as he can only name five loan players in a matchday squad and Leeds have six to choose from.

Therefore, one will have to miss out each week and The Athletic reporter Phil Hay explained why it could be an issue for winger Jack Clarke over the coming months.

"Ben White is going to start regularly, Helder Costa and Eddie Nketiah will be expecting big parts to play. Jack Harrison is clearly a favourite under Bielsa and you've got Illan Meslier on the bench. It'll be interesting to see how Bielsa handles it.

"The problem with loanees is that a a quiet year is of no value to them. Clarke will want to feature."

The 18-year-old came through the ranks at Elland Road, however he joined Spurs this summer and returned to the club on a season-long loan as part of the deal but has yet to feature in the league this season.

The Verdict

This is an issue for Bielsa moving forward but it's not a bad problem for the manager to have as those loan players are real quality!

As is stands, you would have to agree with Hay's assessment and it does seem as though Clarke is going to be the man to miss out.

But, injuries can hit and players can lose form, so it's not like the wide man is going to be permanently left out of the squad.

Ultimately, it's down to him and the other loan players to ensure they impress the boss in training and when they get a chance to do all they can to keep their spot in the team.
