Phil Hay continues to play down Leeds United move for EFL player

Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell doesn’t appear to be on the radar of Leeds United, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

Leeds are on the lookout for midfield recruits, with a deal for Michael Cuisance at Bayern Munich on the horizon.

It had been suggested over the weekend that Leeds were in for Cantwell, but Phil Hay at The Athletic has continued to play things down.

Quiz: Have Norwich City ever loaned out any of these 9 players?

Have Norwich ever loaned out Max Aarons?

He took to Twitter to tell fans that the message he was getting for the Leeds end was that Cantwell wasn’t going to be signed.

Norwich boss Daniel Farke opted to leave the 22-year-old out of his matchday squad on Sunday against AFC Bournemouth, with the Canaries falling to a 1-0 defeat on the South Coast.

Prior to that, Cantwell had started both Norwich’s opening fixtures upon their return to the Championship.

Farke’s side picked up a late win at Huddersfield Town on the opening day before battling to record a 2-2 draw with Preston North End the following weekend.

Whilst Norwich continue to find their feet back in the Championship, Leeds have six points on the board from three Premier League fixtures on the back of Sunday’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

The Verdict

With Cuisance heading into Leeds, it does look so unlikely that they will be making a move for Cantwell.

The 22-year-old is a good player and, in the coming weekend, you’ve got to imagine that there’s a chance a Premier League side will come in for him.

However, if not, it’s vital he gets his head right and gets back to business with Norwich.
