Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United youngster Robbie Gotts according to The Athletic's Phil Hay.

Gotts has struggled to force his way into the Leeds United first-team in recent years, and only made two appearances for the Whites' senior side as they won promotion into the Premier League last season.

He made a late appearance for Leeds in their EFL Cup match against Hull City this term, but was left frustrated as they crashed out of the competition after a defeat to the Tigers on penalties at Elland Road.

It has previously been claimed by journalist Alan Nixon that Swindon Town are interested in signing Gotts in the near future on loan.

But Phil Hay has now revealed that Hull City, Huddersfield Town and Sunderland are also keen on landing the midfielder's signature.

Sunderland will be targeting a timely promotion back into the Championship this season under the management of Phil Parkinson at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats are currently sat fourth in the League One table, and will be keen to build on some impressive performances so far this term.

Sunderland are set to return to action on Tuesday evening, when they take on League Two side Carlisle United in the EFL Trophy.

The Verdict:

This could be a decent signing for Phil Parkinson's side.

Gotts isn't likely to feature for Leeds' first-team now that they're in the Premier League, and the club are clearly keen for him to find regular game time elsewhere.

He'll be eager to prove himself in senior football as well, and I think he'd be a solid addition for Sunderland, as they look to win promotion back into the Championship this term.

I really like the sound of this potential deal.
