Many Preston North End supporters have been suggesting that defender Ben Davies is too good to be playing in the Championship, following his performance in the Lilywhites' 2-0 win at Stoke City on Wednesday night.

Davies has formed a real commanding partnership with Patrick Bauer at the heart of Preston’s defence so far this campaign, and the pair were again selected to start together for Preston by Neil, as they went into the game looking for another win to cement their place inside the Championship’s top six.

The defender was instrumental in helping Preston keep themselves on level terms during a first half in which they struggled to play with their usual fluency in possession, with Davies producing two excellent blocks to prevent both Tyrese Campbell and Sam Clucas giving the hosts the lead.
