Charlton Athletic beat Doncaster Rovers 1-0 last night to boost their promotion hopes and many fans have praised match-winner Ian Maatsen.
The 19-year-old joined on loan from Chelsea in the summer and is a left-back by trade but was played in the front three against Doncaster.
Nigel Adkins’ tactical switch proved vital as it was Maatsen that scored the winning goal for the Addicks, slamming home a half-volley from close range.
Jayden Stockley had the ball in the net for a Charlton second after the half but it was ruled out for offside.
In the end, Maatsen’s goal was decisive but his general performance was impressive as well.
The teenager had 34 touches, managed two shots on target, won four of his five ground duels, and delivered two crosses (Sofascore).
His work out of possession was even more impressive, however, as he harried the Doncaster backline throughout the game – making four tackles, one interception, and one clearance.
<br /> If you don’t get at least 15/20 on this Charlton Athletic midfielder quiz, can you really call yourself a Addicks fan?
Whether the Chelsea loanee will continue to be used in the forward line or if it was just a one-off remains to be seen but he appears to have impressed fans of the south London club yesterday.

Nige Adkins had a dream to build a football team, he had 9 games and half the team were on loan.
He took Maatsen from the back he played him in attack

Great win today. Professional performance all over and pleased to see Iniss back in the team and solid as if he'd not been away! Stockley won everything in the air as usual!

Defensively we looked at lot stronger, Gilbey smashed it out of the park, Maatsen was phenomenal… as a team we looked comfortable and cohesive, and I like it #cafc 🔵⚪️

Best I’ve seen Maatsen play in a Charlton shirt his agile and direct. Forster-Caskey is pulling strings in the middle. We definitely need a second to get abit of breathing space. Inniss absolutely bossing it really makes us look more compact in the air. Big second half Coyr #cafc
