Leeds United remain well on course to win a long-awaited promotion into the Premier League under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa this term.

The Whites beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Elland Road on Saturday as they moved to the top of the Championship table with nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

Bielsa's side are now seven points clear of third-placed Fulham in the second-tier standings and will be hoping they can hold their nerve in the promotion run-in.

One player that has played a starring role in their impressive season to date is midfielder Mateusz Klich, who made his 85th consecutive start for Leeds.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds defender Danny Mills issued his thoughts on Klich's 85th consecutive start for Marcelo Bielsa's side, and likened his achievement to that of Chelsea legends Frank Lampard and John Terry.

"It is phenomenal.

"Frank Lampard did it for a set of games in the Premier League and John Terry played every single minute of every single game in a season."

Mills went on to praise the Polish international for being able to keep up the level of high-intensity that Marcelo Bielsa demands from his players on a consistent basis.

"In this day and age, the number of games that are played, the physicality, the intensity, it is phenomenal. It is also so easy to get suspended in this day and age because you can pick up yellow cards for next to nothing.

"It is an incredible achievement. The level of consistency and fitness, he looks after himself on and off the pitch. Ultimately, anybody who stays in the team all that time is clearly playing well."

Klich and his Leeds United team-mates return to action this weekend when they take on Cardiff City, in what could potentially be a tricky test for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The Verdict:

He's a crucial player for Leeds going forward.

Klich has shown that he has the physical fitness to start on a regular basis, but 85 consecutive starts is some achievement for any outfield player in their professional career.

With Marcelo Bielsa demanding a high-intensity style of play from his squad, it makes for even more impressive reading for Klich, who will be hoping he can continue to start regularly for the remainder of this year's campaign.

It'll be interesting to see if he starts regularly in the Premier League though if Leeds are to win promotion, as you'd imagine that Bielsa will add to his squad to prepare for life in the top-flight.
