Peterborough United have had a £1million bid rejected by Cheltenham Town for striker Mo Eisa, reports the Peterborough Telegraph

The 23-year-old is hot property this summer after scoring 23 goals last season and assisting seven more, but Cheltenham are not willing to part with him cheaply.

Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, Posh director of football Barry Fry revealed his surprise at the bid being rejected.

"We bid a million pound for Eisa and we couldn’t believe it when it was turned down," Fry said.

"But his agent said he has a Championship club interested so good luck to him."

Peterborough themselves are preparing for life without star striker Jack Marriott with a move away for the 33 goal striker inevitable this summer.

But Fry insists that the Eisa interest has not sprouted purely from this.

"We’ve been chasing Eisa since he ran us ragged in a friendly last summer, but we haven’t managed to pull it off.

"We should have brought him back with us after the game in Cheltenham."

Eisa would become the Posh's 13th signing of the summer if they could land him as Steve Evans continues his overhaul of the squad former manager Grant McCann had put together.

The verdict

This is the exact move that Peterborough should be going for if and when Jack Marriott leaves.

Eisa was one of the Football League's most exciting players last season and clearly has a lot of ability and an eye for goal.

Marriott's goals will be nearly impossible to replace, but there will not be too many people more capable of replacing him than Eisa.
