Peterborough United launch major bid for Bolton Wanderers target

Peterborough United have made a bid in the region of £500,000 for Charlie Wyke, according to The Bradford Telegraph and Argus.

Posh are trying to sign a new striker this summer and are now firming up their interest in Wyke with a concrete bid.

Peterborough recently saw a £1m bid for Mo Eisa rejected by Cheltenham Town, who are keen to keep their key striker.

And despite signing Stevenage marksman Matt Godden earlier in the window, Peterborough want another forward to ease the inevitable departure of Jack Marriott.

Marriott hit 33 goals last season and he is a target for a number of Championship clubs, including Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

Wyke has been lined up as his potential replacement after hitting 16 goals last season to take his Bradford tally to 23 goals in 62 games.

The former Middlesbrough and Carlisle United striker is entering the final year of his contract at Valley Parade and could be sold to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.

Championship side Bolton Wanderers are among the second tier teams interested in the 25-year-old this summer.

The Verdict

Wyke knows where the net is at League One level and would be a decent replacement for Marriott at Peterborough.

While he is unlikely to replicate the 23-year-old’s tally of 33 goals, he is certainly a top attacking threat that could bolster their attack.

Whether he can step up to Championship football is another question but Bolton seem keen on a swoop.
