Peterborough United are interested in making a summer move for Hull City Richard Smallwood, as per a report from Hull Live.

The 31-year-old is understood to have rejected the Championship outfit's offer of a 12-month extension to his Hull contract, with that sparking widespread interest in England's third-tier.

Peterborough have emerged as the only named League One outfit who are currently in pursuit of the holding midfielder, with Smallwood featuring 41 times in the league for Hull during the 2021/22 campaign.

The report states that Smallwood would prefer to remain in the north, which could be damaging for Posh's chances to secure a move for Smallwood.

Similar to the 31-year-old, Tom Eaves is attracting plenty of interest within the third-tier, with the 30-year-old departing the MKM Stadium after a season of scoring five goals in 1200 minutes of Championship action.

The verdict

Playing an integral role in Hull's season, it is no surprise that several clubs are set to be trying their luck with the experienced midfielder, with Smallwood wearing the captain's armband for a large part of the campaign.

Smallwood would be an excellent addition at most clubs pushing for promotion to the Championship, with his ability to stay composed and keep things simple when in possession certainly showing.

Intelligent off the ball, he reads the game very well, whilst he matches that with relentlessness and grit when trying to retrieve possession.

Smallwood would be a great signing at Peterborough, however, his preference to remain north appears to be an immediate hindrance.
