Life back in the Championship last season was no easy ride for Norwich City, with the tough climate of the 2016/17 campaign ultimately costing former boss Alex Neil his job at Carrow Road.

Daniel Farke was brought in from Germany to turn the Canaries’ fortunes around, and following a rather questionable start to the new campaign, it appears the German’s men are firmly on course for a promotion challenge.

Sitting in ninth place following the opening eleven rounds of fixtures, it appears that Norwich are beginning to gel as a team after an influx of new signings, and Farke is on the verge of something special in East Anglia.

By January, the Canaries should still be lurking around the top six, and Farke may look to the transfer window to provide his squad with a boost heading into the second half of the season.

Lincoln City’s Sean Raggett is already scheduled to arrive in January, and Farke should perhaps continue to turn his eye to the lower levels of the Football League to add talent to his squad in the form of these two players…

Jack Marriott

Norwich have struggled for goals at times this year, scoring at a rate of just a goal per game, and this form must improve if they are to remain a firm promotion contender.

Peterborough United’s Marriott is finding the net for fun in League One, with the Posh forward already able to boast an impressive nine goals to his name this term.

Picked up from Luton Town just this summer, it would take a big offer to prise the forward away from Grant McCann’s side, but Norwich should have funds to spend this winter.

Former Peterborough strikers excel at this level, with Britt Assombalonga and Dwight Gayle just two of the men to shine in the second tier in recent years, and Marriott certainly has the ability to emulate their success.

Just 23 and scoring goals for fun, Marriott could fire Norwich to the promise land.

Nick Powell

Once the most promising youngster in the country following a big-money move to Manchester United from Crewe Alexandra as a teenager, Powell failed to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, and found himself shipped out on loan on multiple occasions.

Picked up by Wigan Athletic in 2016 following his release from the Red Devils, £900,000 rated Powell is beginning to exhibit the form he showed at Gresty Road, and is still young enough to compete at Premier League level once again.

Five goals from midfield to his name already this term, Powell’s Latics side sit second in the automatic promotion spots of the third tier, and it is looking likely that the player will be plying his trade in the Championship again soon enough.

Norwich should make sure they are the ones to offer the player second tier football, and the distinct possibility of a top flight campaign.

Both Marriott and Powell are in the midst of excellent runs of form, and are certainly living up to their potential in the third tier.

Farke should swoop in January to secure their services, and provide his side with a timely boost ahead of what is set to be a difficult slog for a Premier League return.
