Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry says that new club-record signing Mo Eisa wasted his time at Bristol City.

The Posh smashed their transfer record to sign the 24-year-old on a four-year deal at the weekend, following his disappointing spell at Ashton Gate.

Eisa made just six appearances for Bristol City last season, five substitute appearances in the Championship and one start in the EFL Cup, after joining the Robins from Cheltenham Town last summer.

Fry insisted that Peterborough's decision to break their transfer record to sign Eisa does not represent a financial gamble and is confident that the striker will make an impact for the Posh next season.

“I don’t see it as a gamble at all. He tore us apart in a pre-season friendly two summers ago and we have kept tabs on him since then," said Fry, as quoted by the Peterborough Telegraph.

Fry revealed that Peterborough initially tried to sign Eisa last summer, but the striker decided to join Bristol City in the Championship instead.

The former Peterborough manager said that Eisa wasted his time at Bristol City, but is delighted to finally see the player sign for the Posh.

“We tried to buy him last summer and we advised him he’d be better off with us, but he wanted to try the Championship.

“He’s wasted his time there as it happens and we are delighted to get him. We are all convinced he will be a big hit for us. He’s quick for a start and that’s something we lacked up front last season.

“It might seem a lot of money, but it’s not a risk as far as I’m concerned.”

Peterborough finished seventh in the League One table last season, just one point outside the play-off places, after sacking manager Steve Evans halfway through the campaign.

The Verdict

To be fair to Fry, he makes a good point.

Eisa was never really given a proper chance to make an impact at Bristol City, so you could say that he wasted his time by moving to Ashton Gate.

You can't blame the striker for wanting to test himself in the Championship though and it's a shame that he was never really given that opportunity.

He will be desperate to prove himself at Peterborough and could turn out to be a great signing for the Posh.
