After they were relegated from the Premier League in 2015, QPR fans will have hoped they could bounce back immediately the following season.

However, they suffered a blow mid-season in that campaign when top scorer and key striker Charlie Austin left for Southampton.

Yet, the R's moved quickly to secure his replacement, bringing in Conor Washington from Peterborough after a very successful few years in the lower leagues.

Many thought he would be able to handle the step up with relative ease, but it didn't work out for the Northern Ireland striker.

Despite scoring 10 in 25 in League One in the first-half of the campaign, Washington needed time to adapt and he failed to score a single Championship goal for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's men in 15 games after joining.

Thinking he may have needed time to settle into his new surroundings and to understand a different approach from the manager, supporters were prepared to give him time.

However, even though he eventually notched his first league goal for the club, Washington still struggled to find that ruthless edge that he had at the Posh.

A first-full season with the West London outfit resulted in just seven goals from 40 games, with the club's financial situation now ensuring they were stuck in the bottom half.

It was a similar story a year later, with Washington registering just six goals, before he was eventually shipped of this summer, joining Sheffield United.

That means his record for QPR stands at 13 league goals in 92 games.

It certainly wasn't good enough for a guy supposed to replace Austin and it's something that the majority of fans didn't see coming.

Here's how they reacted to his arrival back in January 2016...
