Birmingham City players have this week returned to training.

Pep Clotet's side have resumed their preparations for the remainder of the Championship season, joining most Championship sides in doing so.

It's made for an exciting week to be a football fan, as teams across the Premier League and Championship implement new guidelines to their training routines.

Training had been given the go ahead for the start of this week and yesterday, the Premier League announced that it will will officially resume on 17 June, with the Championship strongly expected to follow suit.

Speaking on his side's return to action, Clotet shared this message on

It's been a contested season for the Spaniard whose side currently sit in 16th-place of the Championship table. He began the season as the 'head caretaker manager' but was handed he job on a permanent basis in December.

Going into the temporary break, Clotet's Blues had not won in their previous six outings in all competitions, and they could well slip into a relegation fight if their season resume doesn't show any improvement.

They've an eight point gap over 22nd-place Charlton Athletic as it stands, with nine games and 27 points left to play for.

The verdict

Birmingham have definitely shown signs of quality under Clotet. He's had some moments to be proud of this season and this calendar year has seen his side lose just twice in the Championship.

But wins remain few and far between for Clotet and if his side continue to drop points, it could well land them in serious trouble when the season kick-starts again.
