Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet has revealed that the club have already outlined targets for the January window, with a forward on the radar.

There is a lot of optimism around the club right now, with Blues just two points outside the play-offs and they have played some great football in recent weeks.

However, the squad is clearly weak in certain areas, so many fans feel additions in the New Year will be necessary if they are to sustain a play-off push.

And, there was good news on that front, with Clotet offering an insight into Blues' transfer plans when speaking to Birmingham Live.

"I know the club is working very hard and they have already our targets selected. That for me is a pleasure to see in a club. The club has to work a lot and I am very conscious they are doing it, we shortlisted potential targets.

"Obviously in the club we have spoken that we should only look for players that can be a real help, to be different. I do think we have an imbalance when it comes on that second striker. As a coach you always want players who can turn football into goals, that is clear."

Clotet's men are back in action this weekend when they take on Cardiff in Wales.

The verdict

This is very encouraging news for Birmingham fans and it shows the club are finally in a good position off the pitch now with plans already being made.

Of course, it's one thing lining up these players and another closing the deals, so the fans will want the club to be decisive when the window opens.

But, that's clearly the plan and adding another option to the forward line is a priority which the team needs.
