Pedro Pereira has expressed his delight at scoring his first goal for Bristol City on Sunday.

The full-back finally netted for the Robins, as he rescued a point for Lee Johnson's side against a stubborn Wigan Athletic.

The draw meant that Johnson and his Bristol City team are now unbeaten in six at home, having won three and drawn three at Ashton Gate.

Pereira's goal meant that the Robins are now in the play-off places once again, sitting sixth after 14 games of the new campaign. There's still a long way to go, but results and performances suggest that they'll be battling at the top end throughout the season.

Pereira has stated that the Robins will make sure that they are sharper for Friday's fixture against Barnsley.

Speaking to Bristol City's official club website, Pereira said: “I’m very happy to score my first goal. It was an important goal to help the team get the point.

“After a tough game we are just focusing on the next game on Friday (Barnsley). Every game is really hard here, every team is competitive so we just need to make sure in the next game we are even sharper in everything we do to go and get the three points.”

The Verdict

Pereira rescued a point for Bristol City, which is very important and probably will be come the end of the season. A lot of supporters thought that they'd stroll to victory against Wigan, but it proved a much tougher game than many thought.

Every point is crucial in the Championship, and at home, yes they do stutter, but they have to keep on going and ensure that they're near the top end.

Johnson seems to have built a side ready to compete for the top places, and maybe this could be the year where they are able to get that all important promotion to the Premier League.
