Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has revealed that Michael Smith, Freddie Ladapo and Georgie Kelly are all in contention to feature for the club in the EFL Trophy final this weekend.

Smith recently had an injection in his foot to ease the pain that he was suffering and thus could potentially lead the line for the Millers in their meeting with Sutton United.

A stand-out performer for Rotherham this season, the forward has already scored five goals in this competition and will be keen to add to this particular tally on Sunday.

Freddie Ladapo and Georgie Kelly have both made strides in terms of their fitness this week and are set to participate with the rest of their team-mates tomorrow.

Ladapo suffered a muscular injury during Rotherham's recent clash with Milton Keynes Dons whilst Kelly has yet to make an appearance for his new side since sealing a move to the club in January.

Having previously won the EFL Trophy in 1996, the Millers will be determined to replicate this feat by defeating their League Two opponents at Wembley Stadium.

Ahead of this fixture, Warne has shared an update on Smith, Ladapo and Kelly.

Speaking to The Yorkshire Post about Smith, the Rotherham boss said: "Smudge is okay.

"He had an injection in his toe and heel.

"It does not feel 100 per cent, but it is a bit better, which is good."

Making reference to Ladapo and Kelly, Warne added: "Freddie and Georgie have done their last day of rehab today [Wednesday] and last box-ticking exercise today.

"They passed that with flying colours and they will both be training with us on Friday."

The Verdict

This is a positive update for Rotherham as all three of these aforementioned players will be determined to make a positive impression for the club this weekend.

Smith has been in sensational form this season as he has managed to find the back of the net on a regular basis for the club.

Ladapo has also produced a host of impressive performances for the Millers as he has provided 18 direct goal contributions in all competitions.

As for Kelly, Rotherham may opt to ease him into action in order to minimise the risk of him suffering another injury setback following his recent issue with his calf.
