Rotherham manager Paul Warne has stated that he is hoping to revive a deal for a League One defender, believed to be Curtis Tilt, report The Sheffield Star.

Warne acknowledged that the club previously had a bid accepted for the player in question, but circumstances changed and the club decided they wanted to keep him - and Blackpool's situation changed recently with their takeover.

The Millers boss also spoke about the possibility of signing Southend's Dru Yearwood and Ross County's Jamie Lindsay, after the club saw bids for both players rejected.

Those transfers now look in doubt, although Warne admitted he is still weighing up another improved bid for Lindsay, suggesting he is a player whom he likes.

He also shared his thoughts on Curtis Tilt, who could still make the move to Yorkshire. Speaking to The Sheffield Star, Warne said:

"I do like centre-halves with pace, how can you not like Curtis? He was probably one of the best defenders in League One last season."

Warne refused to name the player in question, but stressed that he hoped the deal could still happen, adding:

"I hope it's not dead. I'd like to think it isn't. Our offer was more than generous.

"We won't move on that. Whether things change for them and they sign someone and are happy to let him go, we'll have to see.

"Right now, I honestly don't know which way it's going to go."

The Verdict

If Tilt is the target in question, and given Warne's previous interest in him he likely is, then it would be a very shrewd move to sign him. He was key for Blackpool last season and they struggled when he wasn't in the team.

In his 37 League One games Blackpool kept 13 clean sheets, and conceded just 34 goals in the process. Rotherham are in need of a commanding defender like him who is able to stifle attacks in the air and on the ground.

Warne suggested Semi Ajayi could depart this summer; Tilt is a defender in the same mould and would be a decent replacement.
