Derby County boss Paul Warne has revealed that the club are hoping to sign a right-back and a striker by 11pm tonight.

The former Rotherham chief has done a fantastic job since his appointment, with the FA Cup loss at home to West Ham last night ending what had been a 19-game unbeaten run.

Therefore, the squad is clearly in good shape but there is still work to do for Warne as he looks to take the Rams back to the Championship.

And, it appears as though they could be active in the final hours, as reporter Leigh Curtis revealed that Warne has confirmed the two positions he wants to strengthen, which are at right-back and a number nine.

It remains to be seen whether the deals will be over the line by the deadline but most fans would agree they are areas that need improving.

Korey Smith, who has played midfield for most of his career, is the current right-back whilst James Collins and David McGoldrick are the two senior strikers at the club but the latter missed out last night through injury.

The verdict

This is encouraging for Derby as whilst they have been superb under Warne, the squad is lacking in terms of depth.

The right-back situation needs to be addressed even if Smith has done very well, so that would provide more competition and ensure he can be used in midfield, which could be key if Max Bird faces a lengthy spell out.

Then, another striker will help during the run-in so it will be interesting to see if Derby can get these deals over the line.
