It's been a tough campaign for Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw, with the player struggling with injury.

The former Brentford central midfielder has not played a match since September, after a hip injury forced him to miss the entirety of the season.

Forshaw had looked impressive in the early stages of the Championship campaign, and was expected to be a key figure in Bielsa's side, supplementing the likes of Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips in midfield.

Up until the 28-year-old's injury in September, Forshaw had made six Championship appearances, scoring once and assisting once - it now looks like an August return is likely for the number four.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Paul Robinson has issued his verdict on the player's season: “He’s had a really difficult injury and he struggled to get over it, so this time off will do him the world of good, and give him time to rest and recuperate.”

Concerned somewhat about the negative effects of all this time off, Robinson said: “The only problem is he won’t have time on the pitch or with the ball at his feet. When you don’t have the ball at your feet for a period of time it does have an effect.

“Depending on when the remaining games are rearranged for this season and how much time you have to prepare – I’m sure they’ll give teams more than a week – he’ll be itching to get back on the grass at the first opportunity.”

The verdict

The 28-year-old is a very useful option to have in midfield and is adept both in a defensive sense, whilst just as effective in an attacking sense.

Able to break up play and distribute the ball forwards, Forshaw offers a great solution and you feel he'd still be part of the squad, should Leeds get promoted to the top-flight.

This length of time out is likely to affect the player in some way, but Forshaw has an abundance of experience to call upon which will help him on his return to the pitch.
