Paul Robinson insists that he cannot see Kiko Casilla leaving Leeds United this summer, despite speculation linking him with a move away from Elland Road.

The 33-year-old joined Leeds in January of last season, arriving from European giants Real Madrid in what was seen as a massive statement of intent from the club.

Casilla struggled to hit the ground running in West Yorkshire, though, and his mistake led to Jack Marriott pulling a goal back for Derby County in the play-off semi-finals in May, igniting a memorable comeback for the Rams at Elland Road.

Can you answer these Leeds United questions correctly?

The Spaniard’s form this season has been patchy and he has made a couple of costly mistakes, but he has kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the division with 15 to his name.

The goalkeeper’s future at Elland Road is uncertain, though, especially after he was given an eight-game ban after being found guilty for racially abusing Charlton’s Jonathan Leko.

Football Insider have recently claimed that Casilla could quit Leeds United this summer, with multiple Spanish sides interested in his services.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, though, former Leeds goalkeeper Robinson insists it would take a lot for Casilla to depart Elland Road this summer.

He said: “He’s been given a chance that he wouldn’t necessarily have got if it wasn’t for what happened to Casilla. And, unless they’re planning to replace Casilla I can’t see him leaving.

“If you’re going into the Premier League you need a very strong one and two, with a good number three as well. Leeds are going to have to add come the end of the season anyway, whether it’s a number one or a number one/two, or they bring in a third keeper to support the two who are there and let them fight it out for the number one spot.

“A lot will have to happen if Leeds are going to let him leave.

“I still think he’s a top-class goalkeeper. He’s been up and down in form, his indecision at times has let him down, his consistency has let him down.

“But he’s had a lot to deal with on and off the pitch. I still think he’s a top-class keeper. I thought he was a great signing when he arrived and I think a lot would have to happen in the market if Leeds are going to let him leave.”

The Verdict

Casilla has been quite a controversial figure since he arrived at Elland Road, and his future will be called into question this summer.

Whilst he may have made a few mistakes during his time at Leeds so far, the stats don’t lie, as he’s kept more clean sheets than anybody else in the division this term.

If he was to leave, then they’d need to bring in an experienced ‘keeper to replace him, as I don’t think Illan Meslier is ready just yet.
