Paul Lambert has admitted that he is not aware of any interest in Ipswich Town duo Luke Woolfenden and Flynn Downes, but has insisted that it will take a significant amount of money if the duo are to leave the club in January.

Centre-back Woolfenden and midfielder Downes - both academy graduates - have been two of the standout performs for Ipswich so far this season and have both played a key role in the Tractor Boys' promising start to their campaign League One.

If recent reports are to be believed, the duo's impressive displays so far this season have started to attract interest from the Championship.

According to a recent report from TWTD, Fulham are keeping close tabs on Downes, while Queens Park Rangers are keen on signing Woolfenden.

However, Ipswich boss Lambert admitted at his press conference this morning that he is unaware of any interest in the young duo, although he admitted that it would not come as a surprise if they are starting to attract attention from rival clubs, given how well they have performed so far this season.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, Lambert insisted that it would have to take a significant amount of money for either player to depart Portman Road in January.

Lambert said: "I've not heard that but it wouldn't surprise me at all because of how well they're playing.

"Money talks in the modern day game, money talks, and if it's a hell of an amount of millions then you sometimes can't do anything about it.

"But the lads have been playing really well so for someone to take them out of here it's going to be a few million that's for sure. There's no pressure to sell, not unless it's £30m or £40m coming through the door."

The Verdict

Woolfenden and Downes are both talented young players and they've been very impressive for Ipswich so far this season.

They've both got a lot of potential and could have what it takes to make the step up to the Championship, so as Lambert says, it shouldn't come as a major surprise that they're starting to attract interest from rival clubs.

However, Ipswich are under no pressure to sell the duo and they're both going to be key to their chances of wining promotion from League One this season, so it could take a significant amount of money if they're to leave Portman Road in January.
