Paul Lambert has said that he will put some money behind the bar at Portman Road tomorrow to say thank you to the Ipswich Town fans for their support so far this season.

Ipswich were relegated from the Championship last season, but the club have made a very promising start to life in League One and have put themselves in a brilliant position to challenge for automatic promotion.

The Tractor Boys are currently second in the league table, four points behind leaders Wycombe Wanderers - although they do have a game in hand - going into their clash with fifth-placed Bristol Rovers tomorrow.

It's fair to say that the Ipswich fans have played their part in the team's promising start to the campaign and as the match at Portman Road tomorrow is Town's final home game before Christmas, Lambert has decided to thank the fans with a special gesture.

The Ipswich boss revealed to the club's media at his pre-match press conference this morning, that he will be putting some money behind the FanZone bar, to thank the Ipswich fans for their support and for what they've done for the club so far this season.

The Verdict

This is a touch of class from Lambert. The Ipswich fans have been brilliant so far this season and there's no doubt that they've played a very important role in the club's promising start to the season in League One - I'm sure they'll appreciate this gesture from the manager.

To have around 20,000 passionate fans at Portman Road every week must give the players a huge confidence boost and some extra motivation going into each home game.

There's still a long way to go in the promotion race yet, but Ipswich's start to the season has given their supporters at Portman Road plenty of reasons to feel confident about their chances of securing an immediate return to the Championship.
