Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert has insisted that whilst the club has made a positive start to the 2019/20 campaign, they are still miles away from where he wants them to be.

Currently top of the third-tier standings, the Tractor Boys will be determined to continue their fine form when they face Accrington Stanley on Sunday.

Having yet to taste defeat in League One, Ipswich will head into their clash with Stanley as overwhelming favourites to secure all three points at the Crown Ground.

However, given that the Tractor Boys lost to Accrington in the FA Cup earlier this year, Lambert's side know that they will have to be on top-form to avoid another potential upset this weekend.

Despite playing a game less than their nearest challenges Wycombe Wanderers this season, Ipswich are currently three points clear of their League One rivals and could extend their lead with a victory over Accrington.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (as cited by TWTD), Lambert said: "We're miles away from where you want to get but what we have got is the support back which is a catalyst of the club starting to rebuild again.

"We had to get the support.

"We had to get the community back involved.

"You had to do all that side of it because it wasn't working before.

"We needed to bring everybody back to the stadium.

"We've started the season well, but the biggest thing for me and the catalyst of it, is that the support is coming back."

The Verdict

Following what was a dismal 2018/19 campaign, it was extremely important for Ipswich to get off to a positive start to the current season and thus Lambert will be very happy with how things have panned out in recent months.

Having brought a feelgood factor back to Portman Road, the 50-year-old will now be determined to lead the Tractor Boys back to the second-tier next May.

Providing that he can achieve this particular goal, there is no reason why Lambert cannot go on to achieve a relative amount of success with Ipswich in the Championship.
