Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert has praised owner Marcus Evans for the way he runs the club but he also admitted that the pair do clash over certain things.

The Scotsman is embarking on his first full season at Portman Road right now and even though they are currently four games without a win in the league, it can't detract from the good work he has done.

That's because the Tractor Boys are currently second in League One and in a good position to bounce back to the Championship immediately. Lambert may feel he needs new players in January to help on that front and it's unclear whether Evans will back him.

And, he gave an insight into his relationship with the owner when speaking at the PLC AGM, as revealed by the East Anglian Daily Times.

"The last conversation I had with Marcus was him saying to never really protect him. There two sides to look at him, I think. If he wasn't as good as what he was then your club could be the same as Bury, it could be in real trouble.

"Do I agree with him all the time? No, I don't. I don't agree with him all the time. I'll probably want things that he doesn't want and vice versa, it's give or take with him. But as an owner he's very good because he looks after the club."

The verdict

This is an honest message from Lambert and it's probably the same between every manager with the owner up and down the country.

He will be no different in that he will always be wanting more in terms of funding to improve the squad and Evans has to make a call on whether it's affordable.

After a tough summer, the past few weeks have indicated that a few players may be needed to help Ipswich over the line and it will be interesting to see if they do any business.
