Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert has suggested that he will be making changes to his starting line-up for the Tractor Boys' FA Cup first round tie against Lincoln City at Portman Road on Saturday.

Lambert's side secured their tenth win in 15 League One matches so far this season, winning 1-0 at Rochdale on Tuesday night to move back above Wycombe Wanderers at the top of the table - and the Tractor Boys will aiming to make it three wins on the bounce in all competitions against Lincoln on Saturday.

Saturday's FA Cup fixture could allow Lambert the opportunity to hand minutes to the likes of Will Keane, Emyr Huws, Andre Dozzell and Anthony Georgiou, who were all on the bench against Rochdale and have found starts hard to come by over recent weeks.

Speaking to Ipswich's official website ahead of their meeting with Lincoln City in the FA Cup first round on Saturday, Lambert suggested he will be making changes to his line-up but that they will be focusing on securing another win, saying: "It’s a fantastic competition, the FA Cup, and we will be approaching the game like we do every match, looking to win it and progress.

"Winning games of football is a nice habit to have, whatever the competition.

"There will be a few changes to the team that won at Rochdale in the week. We have got players who need game time but whoever pulls on an Ipswich Town shirt, I trust them to do a good job for the team."

The Verdict

Lambert is right to suggest that Ipswich will be wanting and needing to maintain their momentum by securing a win against Lincoln on Saturday whatever side he elects to play, and the Tractor Boys will also be wanting to avenge their defeat against the Imps in the FA Cup back in the 2016/17 season when they knocked Ipswich out whilst playing in the National League.

Ipswich's squad players will be needing to use the game as an opportunity to impress Lambert and prove that they should be in real contention for regular first team minutes, and the Tractor Boys should have enough quality to still be able to produce a strong performance against Lincoln despite any changes.

Having secured back to back victories in the league, in response to back to back defeats, Ipswich will be eager to maintain their momentum and pick up another victory, before turning their attentions back to matters in League One over the next few weeks.
