Ipswich boss Paul Lambert has admitted his frustrations with the club's transfer business this summer and claimed his side still need to sign three more players.

The Tractor Boys have already made three additions to prepare for life in League One following their relegation last term, but a number of outgoings and injury setbacks means there is still work to be done.

Lambert has recruited James Norwood, Tomas Holy and Luke Garbutt so far in the off-season, but injuries to Toto Nsiala, Teddy Bishop, Jack Lankester and Tristan Nydam have left the squad short of numbers.

Additionally, seven players were released and six loans expired after Ipswich's 2018/19 campaign but Lambert revealed he has already made his favoured replacements known to Ipswich chiefs.

"We need, I think, at least three to come in," Lambert told the East Anglian Daily Times.

"If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen and we'll see what happens from there. But we need a wee bit of strengthening."

Lambert also admitted he has been frustrated by the club's attempts to sign players, as he claimed "things aren't going as quick" as he would ideally like.

The verdict

Lambert does not let too much slip regarding Ipswich's transfer situation, but he is clearly not best pleased about the club's approach to the transfer window so far.

Ipswich are looking pretty thin on the ground with the season fast approaching, and I think it's important that at least one or two signings are made before the club's final pre-season match on Saturday.

I do think their signings so far have been rather impressive, but Lambert would have obviously liked to have a fully assembled squad by now and it appears this is not the case.

Lambert would have made these comments as a message to the board to hurry up the process, and I think we should now see some movement on deals in the next few days.
