Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert has revealed that James Norwood suffered a groin injury during yesterday's 1-0 victory over Milton Keynes Dons.

The forward, who joined the club on an initial three-year deal in June (via BBC Sport), has made an encouraging start to life at Portman Road.

After opening his account for the Tractor Boys against Peterborough United last month, Norwood has since taken his goal tally to five for the season.

Having been named in Ipswich's starting eleven against the Dons, the 29-year-old went close to opening the scoring for his side yet was denied by a block from Russell Martin.

The Tractor Boys, who had entered the clash second in the League One standings, took the lead in the 12th minute as Jon Nolan fired home.

Lambert's side then went close to doubling their advantage as Norwood set up Kayden Jackson who saw his effort saved by goalkeeper Lee Nicholls.

Despite looking sharp during the first-half, Norwood was forced off with a knock in the 35th minute with Will Keane replacing him up-front.

Following the forward's withdrawal, the Dons began to dominate possession yet ultimately failed to find a way past goalkeeper Tomas Holy who made a number of superb saves during the second period.

Speaking to the press after the clash (as cited by Ipswich's official Twitter account) about the club's top-scorer, Lambert said: "Norwood went off with a groin injury.

"Knowing him and how robust he is he won't want to miss much but we'll have to wait and see."

The Verdict

Whilst Norwood has seemingly escaped a serious injury, the fact that he could miss Ipswich's upcoming clashes is unquestionably a blow.

Having adjusted well to his new surroundings, the forward would have been wanting to continue his fine form over the coming weeks for the Tractor Boys.

However, if Norwood is indeed facing a spell on the sidelines, Lambert will now have to look to Keane and Jackson for inspiration on Saturday when his side head to the MEMS Priestfield Stadium to face Gillingham in League One.
