Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert suggested he wanted to assess the potential of 19-year-old goalkeeper Adam Pryzbek from the start in the Tractor Boys' EFL Trophy clash at Peterborough United.

Lambert, as he has done all the way through the competition so far, made changes to his starting line-up to offer chances to some of Ipswich’s promising academy players, with the likes of Idris El Mizouni, Armando Dobra, Brett McGavin, Alex Henderson, Barry Cotter and Pryzbek all starting for the Tractor Boys.

Pryzbek enjoyed a very promising debut for Ipswich, with the keeper making some important interventions as the game finished 1-1, and then pulling off two excellent saves in the penalty shootout to help the team progress through to the next round of the competition.

QUIZ: Do you know where these 15 ex-Ipswich Town players are playing now?

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times following Ipswich’s win at Peterborough, Lambert suggested that he wanted to check Pryzbek’s potential amid fears fellow stopper Will Norris could return to Wolves in the New Year.

"People have to understand that when you have loan players (like Norris) there is always a chance they can go back (in January). You have to have one eye on 'what if?' scenarios.

"That's the position we're in as a football club. It's not a great position for us to be in because Will Norris has been great, so has Tomas Holy. Adam has proved to me in that game that, yeah, with a wee bit of time, let's see what he's got."

The Verdict

Lambert is right to have wanted to look at Pryzbek given the possibility that Norris could be recalled by Wolves in the January transfer window, and the 19-year=old certainly took his chance with a fine performance.

Pryzbek has certainly given Lambert something to think about were Norris to be recalled by Wolves in January, with the Ipswich boss now perhaps feeling like signing someone to take his place might not necessarily be required.

It will be interesting to see whether Lambert now affords more minutes to Pryzbek in the cup competitions during the rest of the campaign, and he showed at Peterborough that he can make a difference if needed in the starting line-up.
