Ipswich Town's new manager Paul Lambert was lured to Portman Road with the promise of a £10m January transfer kitty.

According to a report in the Sun on Sunday, print edition, Sunday 28th October, the Tractor Boys' owner Marcus Evans has promised the cash to Lambert in the next window to ensure the Scot gets a good run at turning the club's fortunes round into the second half of the season.

Lambert was reportedly keen to ensure some budget was in place after seeing his previous roles with Stoke City and Blackburn marred by issues off the field in terms of transfer budgets and plans.

Ipswich parted ways with manager Paul Hurst last week after seeing Mick McCarthy leave the club during the summer, and now the Tractor Boys will be keen to ensure there is some consistency among the ranks under Lambert with a long and successful reign.

Lambert watched on yesterday as his new side were dismantled by Millwall at the Den, and he will know full well he has quite the job on his hands to turn things around.

The £10m budget boost will be welcomed though, and Lambert will be keen to see some new players come into the squad in January.

The verdict

It's certainly a big boost for Lambert and Ipswich, but £10m doesn't get you that much these days.

Lambert will need to use this money wisely, and he will hope that he has managed to get some points on the board before January so he doesn't have to chuck all his eggs in one basket at once.
