Leeds host Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday next as they seek to finish the season strongly.

Off-field issues have dominated Leeds' recent performances with the build up to the Yorkshire derby being no different.

They are currently 13th in the table and already starting to prepare for next season. Bragging rights are their main aim for this match because they are 11 points away from the play-offs.

Leeds' owner Andrea Radrizzani has been critical of his team recently due to their poor run of form as well as their increasingly slim chances of getting promoted.

Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Leeds what the owner has said to him about the squad: "If we are going to out compete teams which are spending more and paying more, we’re going to have to do things better."

"We are going to have to have a tight, hungry group who are really driven and that’s what we’re going to try and do."

The Verdict

Radrizzani obviously believes that targeted signings are the way for Leeds to progress rather than bringing in depth across the team. This suggests that he is keen to replicate the success of Wolves who brought in a few star players such as Ruben Neves to boost the squad.

This is a risky approach because of how injuries can ruin a Championship campaign, just look at upcoming rivals Sheffield Wednesday. However, Leeds fans will be happy to see that the club is at least trying to solve their lacklustre transfer strategy.

Heckingbottom is the ideal manager to bring the best out of a determined group of players, so this looks a good shift in strategy on paper.
