Paul Heckingbottom provides update on Sheffield United’s transfer pursuit of Premier League player

As the new season edges closer, Paul Heckingbottom is still looking to add to his Sheffield United side in the hope that they are able to fight for promotion again next season.

Someone on the manager’s radar is 21-year-old Reda Khadra from Brighton.

There is also interest from Blackburn Rovers, where the player spent last season on loan, and Hertha Berlin although The Star recently reported that the Blades made an offer to get the young player on a loan deal from the Premier League for the season.

However, whilst it seems like a deal in the works, there may be a bit of a way to go still as when asked if he felt like United were far away from the deal, Heckingbottom told The Star: “I’d say not but then, the little details when you get that far, they can often be the most difficult.

“I don’t think we’re that far. But then that’s me. If you ask the people who are actually responsible for putting things like this together – at both ends of the deal – they might tell you something different.

“No, there’s been no real progress but sometimes but sometimes it’s difficult. Sometimes things crop up that can make things difficult.

“I’m not going to talk about that. We’ve got to get an agreement with Brighton, that’s the first thing.”

The Verdict:

If Heckingbottom could get these deal done for the new season it would be a great bit of business. Although the attacking player has made just one first team appearance for Brighton, when he was on loan with Blackburn last year, he really impressed and showed his talent.

After having scored five goals and provided three assists in 28 appearances in all competitions, it seems clear that he will be able to add to the Blades’ attacking efforts next season, something which does need bolstering.

It seems as though both United and Brighton are keen to strike a deal with one another for next season although as it stands, Heckingbottom’s words suggest that it could be the more minor details that are making it hard to smooth out. However, with interest still persisting from elsewhere, the boss will be hoping his side can get this one over the line.
