With Sheffield United kicking off the new season with a trip to Watford on Monday night, Paul Heckingbottom will be hoping his side can get off to a good start to set them up nicely for what they hope will be another strong season.

The Blades have made a number of additions to their side this summer although one that does not look likely to be making his debut on the opening day is Tommy Doyle.

United secured the 20-year-old on a season long loan deal from Manchester City following his spell with Cardiff last season but during pre-season, the midfielder has picked up an injury.

However, despite being set to miss the start of the season, Blades fans will be pleased with Heckingbottom's latest update on the player as he told The Star: "It's a thigh but it's on his non-kicking leg so I'm not too concerned by it. There's a tear, that's what it is. Nothing more serious than that.

"Tommy is frustrated as you would expect. We're frustrated for him, because we want him out there were really pleased to bring him in. But, as I just explained, I'm not too concerned or worried by it.

"Tommy is back doing running and training. It's bit by bit, stage by stage."

The Verdict:

Entering the season with a Tommy Doyle injury isn't the news Blades fans would've been hoping for as he looks to be a great addition for them this season.

Furthermore, the player himself will have been hoping to get off to a strong start for his new side so you can understand why he feels frustrated too.

However, Paul Heckingbottom's update is a positive one as it suggests that Doyle shouldn't be out for too long and the injury isn't impacting him too much either.

Therefore, it shouldn't be too long until the youngster is able to make his United debut and hopefully contribute to his side's efforts.
