Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has hinted to The Star that the next coach the club takes on will be defensively minded.

The Blades have already brought in the likes of Jack Lester and Stuart McCall as part of Heckingbottom's coaching staff, with the former striker and former midfielder being set to pass on their expertise to the squad.

However the Steel City club are still not done on the recruitment front, with the Barnsley born boss having previously made it clear upon taking the job on that he would want to add at least three coaches to his backroom staff in order to aid Sheffield United's ascent up the league standings.

Now Heckingbottom has hinted that whoever he brings in could be more focused on the defensive side of the game, as he stated the following recently:

"It's not black and white with strikers but we want that across all the group. Teams have had goalkeeping coaches for a long time but Jack has given the strikers some attention, Macca has used his experienced to work with the midfielders and the other coach, I very much see providing the same expertise and assistance and guidance to the defenders as well."

As to who may be in the pipeline to come in at Bramall Lane is anyone's guess right now, with the Blades primarily being focused on matters on the pitch.

Meanwhile, the Steel City side are set to return to league action next Monday as they travel to Craven Cottage in West London to take on Fulham.

The Verdict

It is good for the Sheffield United fans to see that Heckingbottom is looking to get his house in order by bringing in people that he knows can have an impact on the squad.

The additions of Lester and McCall are already working wonders and now it appears that a third person could be set to join the coaching set up.

As long as the new addition adds something to what the club already has at it's disposal, it is a win-win for all involved as they seek to salvage the season.

It will take time for things to gel but the early signs look good at Bramall Lane.
