Alan Nixon believes that Paul Cook has not been contacted over the Sheffield Wednesday job.

The Owls are searching for a new manager after the decision to sack Garry Monk on Monday evening.

Dejphon Chansiri made the call after what has been a very disappointing start to the new season, albeit in incredibly difficult circumstances.

Wednesday were deducted 12 points coming into this campaign after being found guilty of breaching spending regulations.

But regardless of that clear handicap, results have been way off the mark.

Three wins and three draws from 11 fixtures so far left the club in 23rd place in the Championship with a total of six points on the board.

Seemingly that isn't enough for Chansiri as he looks to ensure that the club aren't embroiled in a relegation battle.

Several names have already been linked with the job including the likes of Nigel Pearson, Danny Cowley, Tony and Cook.

The former Wigan Athletic boss is regarded as a key candidate for the vacant role and has expressed his interest in the position as he looks to find his way back into the game.

However according to Alan Nixon of The Sun, this isn't necessarily the sign of a manager who is top of the list for a role.

The Verdict

Paul Cook should be a serious contender for this position.

The job that he did in impossible circumstances while with Wigan Athletic was nothing short of remarkable as he rallied his team to mathematically avoid relegation last team - at least before the points deduction came into play.

His side played some decent football and were able to grind out excellent results against all odds, and that was done while the heat was on.

Sheffield Wednesday will be a similar scenario and if they're looking for someone who has thrived in this environment, it's Cook.
