Ipswich Town boss Paul Cook has promised to make several changes for tomorrow’s clash against high-flying Lincoln City at Portman Road.
The new Tractor Boys boss saw his team beat Accrington in the week for a third successive victory, but they were soundly beaten 3-1 by Gillingham on Saturday in what was a below par performance.
As a result, Cook told the East Anglian Daily Times that he will shuffle the pack tomorrow, as he prepares to give those on the fringes a chance to impress.
“As you’ll see tomorrow night, the team will change. A lad will be involved that probably wasn’t even in the 18 on Saturday. That’s why, as a manager, you want the players to work hard on the training ground and be fit and ready to take their chance when the opportunity comes.
“The optimism and the energy at the training ground must try and be transmitted onto the pitch. We didn’t see that Saturday and that was the disappointing thing for us.”
Luke Matheson and Jack Lankester are two who weren’t in the squad at Priestfield Stadium that will be hoping to start.
The weekend setback saw Ipswich drop to eighth in the table, although they are only two points away from the play-off places.
Do Norwich City and Ipswich Town have these 10 things in common?
In truth, this is no surprise, because Cook is understandably not happy with how the team played on Saturday, so he will want to see how other players do.
Pleasingly for him, Ipswich have decent depth in the squad, so those coming in to the XI are of a good quality.
Having such competition for places is ideal for any boss, and it’s now down to those who start tomorrow to help the team to a win to ensure they keep their place moving forward.
