Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook has confirmed that defender Antonee Robinson is travelling to Italy to finalise a deal with Serie A club AC Milan.

Sky Sports reported earlier this morning that the Latics had accepted a bid believed to be in the region of £10M for the 22-year-old.

The fee is believed to be broken down as a £6M initial fee, with up to £4M in add ons, according to the BBC's Simon Stone.

Robinson is set to sign for Milan after left-back Ricardo Rodriguez made the switch to PSV Eindhoven on Thursday, leaving the Serie A club short in the left-back position.

The 22-year-old has been with the Latics since an initial loan from Everton in 2018, before making the permanent switch to the DW Stadium in the summer of 2019.

Robinson has turned out 56 times for Paul Cook's men, scoring one goal during his time at the DW Stadium.

Speaking to the club's official media channels, Paul Cook provided this update on the deal: "With Jedi, both clubs have agreed terms, the fee has been accepted and Antonee is travelling over to Milan to do his medical and agree personal terms.

"Until it goes through, we won't comment a lot, but we're delighted for the kid," continued Cook. "He's an absolute diamond of a young man, he's one of our leaders in the dressing room and it's great to see his development over the 18 months he's been with us.

"He's on the fringe of a dream move to a giant in world football. Hopefully it goes through for him because he really does deserve it," added the manager.

Barring any complications it looks set for the left-back to complete his move to the San Siro later today.

The Verdict

This transfer clearly represents the potential that Robinson has to go on and have a very promising career, and it is hard to think of a similar deal in recent times.

Although this will be a big blow for the Latics, they are getting a very healthy fee for a player that only appeared 56 times for the club.

Robinson appears to have the full backing of the club and his manager Paul Cook, who knows that the young left-back is about to embark on a move to one of Europe's biggest clubs.

The 22-year-old's departure will leave the door open for fellow left-back Tom Pearce to fill the void now Robinson appears to be on his way.
