Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has revealed the details of a hilarious prank he pulled on Middlesbrough forward Britt Assombalonga during their time together at the Riverside.

Bamford made 97 appearances during two spells for the North East side – finding the net 33 times in total.

The 26-year-old joined Boro on loan from Chelsea during the 2014/15 season and was hugely impressive, scoring 19 times.

He then joined them on a permanent deal in January 2017 but made the switch to Elland Road after just 18 months at the club.

During Bamford's second spell at the Riverside, he regularly featured in the forward line alongside Assombalonga.

The DR Congo international outscored the Whites forward during his second stint at the club but it appears Bamford got the better of him in other ways.

Speaking in a 'First & Worst' interview for Sky Sports, the Leeds striker revealed the details of a prank he played on his former teammate.

He said: "There was a safe in the changing room. I knew the code but no one knew where the key to open it was.

"So I took his car and house keys, locked them in the safe and because it was one of those box safes I thought he could pick it up and because his car had remote keys he'd be able to get in it and take it home.

"And he locked them in there, couldn't remember the code to get it back out, and it was all glued down so he couldn't get it up.

"No one could find the key, so he was stuck there. I think he ended up staying at mine that night and leaving his car."

Leeds have gone from strength to strength since the arrival of Bamford and now sit top of the Championship.

Things have not been quite as positive for Boro in the current campaign, as Jonathan Woodgate's men sit just three places and two points above the relegation zone.

The Verdict

Given the way he often deals with opposition fans, you can tell Bamford is a mischievous character.

That said, I didn't quite have him down as someone that follows through with pranks to this extent – fair play to him.

You'd imagine that at the moment, players will be missing these sort of hijinks almost as much as they are getting on the pitch
