New Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has thanked the fans of the Middlesbrough fans on Twitter today.

Taking to Twitter, the 24-year-old wrote:

"Now that everything is finalised I’d just like to thank @Boro and everyone associated with the club for this past year and a half. Naturally, There were ups and downs but I enjoyed every minute of it. A special mention to the fans who always gave me their full support."

The striker has penned a four-year deal at Elland Road and has moved for a fee that could rise to £10million after falling out of favour with Tony Pulis at Boro towards the back-end of last season.

He faced fierce competition in the striking department if he were to stay at the club with himself, Britt Assombalonga, Martin Braithwaite, Rudy Gestede and Ashley Fletcher all vying for the striking spots.

Bamford made 97 appearances for Boro over a loan spell in 2014 and since moving there permanently in January 2017.

In that time he scored 33 goals and assisted eight more.

He becomes the fourth player to leave the Riverside this season, following Fabio, Tomas Mejias and Antonio Barragan out of the door.

The verdict

Bamford has always been a class act throughout his career so it is no surprise that he has expressed his thanks to his former club.

Many players would have acted far less professionally and tried to have forced a move at the first sign of being dropped.

But Bamford respectfully let the two clubs get on with their dealings and I for one hope he will be a huge success at Elland Road.
